Electrics and diagnosis
Electrical and diagnostics
OBD scans, wiring, batteries and electrics, traced to the real fault.
A warning light, a battery that keeps going flat or a vehicle that sometimes will not start can come from many places. Replacing parts one by one and hoping the problem goes away is the most expensive way to find a fault.
We start with an OBD scanner to read fault codes and live sensor data, then test wiring, connectors, fuses and earth points with a meter. A fault code is only a first clue. The cause counts as found only once it can be proven.
Once the source is clear, we explain the findings and the estimate. The repair goes ahead only after you agree, then the vehicle is tested again and the result is written into the service record.
What the job covers
- OBD scan for fault codes and sensor data
- Battery, alternator and starter motor testing
- Wiring, connectors, fuses, relays and earth points traced
- A check for current drain while the vehicle is switched off
- Repairs to lights, horn, power windows and other body electrics
- Fault codes cleared after the cause is fixed, never before
Signs it is time
- The check engine light or another warning light is on
- The battery keeps going flat even though it is new
- The engine is hard to start or cuts out for no clear reason
- Lights dim or flicker, or electrical items work on and off
- A smell of burning wires

How the job runs
- 01
Drop-off
The vehicle arrives and the complaint is written down as told.
- 02
Diagnosis
Scanner and inspection first, before anything is opened.
- 03
Approval
Findings and the estimate are explained. No work goes ahead without your approval.
- 04
Repair
On the lift, mechanical and electrical work is carried through.
- 05
Parts
Genuine or OEM-grade parts come off the shelf, not guesswork.
- 06
Road test and record
A road test to be sure, then the service record is written.
- 07
Handover
The keys go back to you and the vehicle goes back on the road.
Questions
If the fault code has been read, why does it still need checking?
A fault code tells you which system reported a problem, not which part has failed. The sensor named in the code may be fine while the real problem sits in the wiring, a connector or another part that affects it.
Can you just switch the warning light off?
We could, but it will come back on as long as the cause is still there. We only clear codes once the cause has been fixed and tested.
The problem only shows up now and then. Can you still find it?
Usually, though it can take longer. Tell us as much as you can about when it happens, such as in the rain, when the engine is hot or after the vehicle has stood for a while. Details like that help the diagnosis a great deal.
Does my battery need replacing?
Not necessarily. A battery that keeps going flat can be caused by a weak alternator, a current drain or trips that are too short to recharge it. We test the battery and the charging system first, then tell you whether the battery really needs replacing or the problem is elsewhere.
